Due to upcoming hematology exam Saturday, October 11 and subsequent oncology exam Friday, October 17 2008, the writer would like to apologize for not posting anymore articles either related to health in general or main topic discussion: Upper Respiratory Tract infection. This block (hematology and oncology & disorders) is quite difficult and complicated. Therefore, it is compulsory to halt for a moment and focus on study. The writer would post the next topic, still on URI theme as soon after the exam is completed.

Otitis Externa

After we understand the acute otitis media, now discussion turns to otitis externa. Getting Know of URI

URI or URTI (Upper Respiratory [Tract] Infection) as is reflected by the name, is a general term of infection that occurs in upper region of respiratory organ. This comprises infection of the ear (otittis media, otittis externa), nasal (influenza A/B, common cold, sinusitis), tongue (glossitis), throat (pharyngitis, laryngitis, included croup).

Prohibitin- 1: Protein Krusial Mitokondria

Tidak seperti namanya, prohibitin- 1 justru memfasilitasi angiogenesis melalui serangkaian fungsi esensial pada mitokondria. Riset Schleicher et. al menjelaskan peranan prohibitin- 1 dalam menjaga hemostasis vaskuler dan bekerja di dalam mitokondria. Memang mitokondria selama ini dikenal sebagai penjaga integritas vaskuler.

Pada organisme tingkat rendah, prohibitin- 1 sangat krusial. Protein ini memastikan mitokondria bekerja normal dan apabila jumlahnya menurun akan memaksa sel memasuki fase low-activity slow-dividing, yang sering disebut: senescence. Pada mamalia, diperkirakan prohibitin- 1 memiliki fungsi yang serupa.

Konsistensi

Baru beberapa minggu mendeklarasikan niat untuk rutin meng-update content blog, langsung dilanggar minggu itu juga. Ada banyak alasan yang melatarbelakangi inkonsistensi saya. Tapi yang terpenting mohon maaf. Terutama sekali untuk materi Lecture Note yang kemungkinan baru bisa muncul di blok mendatang (Immune System & Disorders).

Di bulan Oktober ini akan ada banyak kegiatan, salah satunya adalah KERSAMI. Rencana awal dilaksanakan pada tanggal 25-26. Dalam KERSAMI kali ini ada formasi yang sedikit berbeda. “Amanah” dari steering commitee adalah mewujudkan 2 hari KERSAMI full yankes dan baksos. Otomatis, program tersebut ditindaklanjuti dan akhirnya diputuskan bahwa KERSAMI mencakup 3 titik desa Buanagiri (Kec. Bebandem, Karangasem).

Bagi divisi penelitian, tetap semangat dan jangan lelah bekerja. Walaupun terlihat sepele, tanpa penelitian (disease outbreak khususnya) tidak akan pernah ada upaya pencegahan primer dan jika demikian, sia-sialah setiap program pengabdian masyarakat yang diselenggarakan selama ini. Viva Hippocrates !

Hari ini saya bertemu dengan senior yang juga aktif mengelola berbagai web, termasuk situs BEM FK UNUD. Lalu kami berdua bercakap-cakap kira-kira seperti ini:

Senior: “Saya sudah mampir di blog-mu. Tapi kok g di-update ya?”

Saya: “Iya kak, saya bingung mau nulis apa. Belum jadi dokter tapi udah keburu nge-blog. Mulanya bersemangat, tapi berhubung terjadi “kekosongan” ya, akhirnya g di-update deh”.
